Wilsoni Beat “Slow Asstley” blogged | blornagain – New Music Monthly

Somehow he’s managed to pull off the ultimate rickroll and produce a genuinely decent beat from Asstley on morphine.

Hey there, long time no see. What’s good?

Just takin’ some time out to sort out my shit, got some plans for a brace of new EPs this year in the pipeline.

In the meantime, a little instrumental I tossed off a while ago (based on a super-slow recording of Never Gonna Give You Up by Rick Astley) has been very kindly featured by music blog blornagain in their January “New & Underexposed” post, after being posted on Soundcloud. The blog has a rather tasty selection of tunage every month from across the board – of great taste, might I add, so not only am I pleasantly surprised to be featured, but also pretty stoked that it’s  right next to one of my fav up-and-coming bands, Basildon-based Indie-Rap outfit COURTS who just dropped a new single called Glass Half Empty.

Very appreciative of the kind words, Mr. Blorn. Thank you muchly!

Christmas in July – NEW SINGLE OUT NOW!!!

Even with only 2 weeks to go ’till the Santa’s Super-Festive Funtime, Christmas has been getting earlier and earlier every year, wouldn’t you agree?

Pagan tradition and Messianic Birthdays aside, we all know the High Street shops are suffering the effects of the recession and the increasing omnipotence of THE INTERNET undercutting and undervaluing the overpriced goods and services that are so important to the maintenance of supply-and-demand power structures, and so we see advertising as early as September to usher in the season to be spending!

If this is the case – why not have it in July?

I’ve gone done it – I’m cashing in, selling out. ‘Cos that’s what Christmas is all about!

!!!BUY NOW ON iTUNES, BANDCAMP, SPOTIFY AND OTHER DIGITAL DISTRIBUTORS!!!

Sarcasm aside, I’m particularly pleased with the B-Side “The Gift That Keeps on Giving Mix” – a properly Prince-esque hard-grooving Sax workout, featuring my main man, the reed-roaster and all round dude that is Caspar Sutton-Jones on Tenor solo. Eric Leeds would be proud.

Please take some time to appreciate the excellent job that Andrew Denholm has done on the artwork. It really is fantastic. Nobody remembered Jesus’s birthday… 😀

Christmas In July Artwork

And remember – I may seem pretty cynical, but I only highlight these things to try and show people the world as I think it is, in an attempt to change the world into something it should be.

Take the holiday to spend some time with your people, don’t bother with the bullshit!

Merry Christmas.

Christmas is coming early this year!

Don’t you think Christmas is getting earlier and earlier every year? I do.

But hey – those stores need the cash injection, right? >:(

So, I thought I’d get in on the action…

Longtime Friend of Tha’ Funk Masta and collaborator Andrew Denholm has done it again and made some mentalist illustration for my new single, but I need folks to share it about on Twitter – every retweet gets closer to uncovering the full image. It’s really great, trust me!

Much appreciated. Stay Tuned!

Prince – Stare | New Song on Spofity?

I thought Prince took all his music off Spotify recently? He said something about labels…

pay[ing] themselves twice while reducing what is owed to artists from pennies on the dollar to fractions of pennies on the dollar.

Seems like another double-bluff from the Prince Promo Playbook. I’m a little disappointed about this, as I feel that streaming services majorly  undervalue music (as I touched on in this post), and the CEOs and shareholders are profiting on content they don’t own through advertising.

Regardless of this, the track in question is ‘sho nuff Funky! Horns and eva’thang – not to mention a cheeky self-reference that made me laugh out loud! If this is the only way to listen to the song atm then it’s pretty smart marketing, as Prince is known for. I’m atcually looking forward to the new record – this is shaping up to be one of his best in recent years.

Whilst you’re there you could always check out my music – but I’d much rather you bought a copy from Bandcamp! I’d very much appreciate it. 😀

Stand Up & Be Recognised! EP (Pt. 1) OUT NOW!!!

Today is May Day – International Workers Day, and next week in the UK on May 7th we have a neck-and-neck bitterly fought Election coming up.

With that in mind, I urge people to STAND UP & BE RECOGNISED!

This song was written in outrage at the circumstances surrounding the result of the last election in 2010 – and things have since got worse! Share if you believe, share if you agree – share if you’re angry!

Available now from Bandcamp, and most major digital distributors imminently. Expect Pt. 2 of this EP in the next few weeks…

Strange People played on The Tom Robinson Show!

After being played on The BBC Introducing Mixtape on the 6th April, Tom picked the track to feature on his regular BBC 6 Music show last Saturday!  Here’s the link – the song gets played around 1hr 3mins in:

CLICK HERE TO PLAY THE SHOW – until May 11th.

Mr. Robinson had some kind words, too!

“…an immaculate, beautiful, grooving track that we really ought to pass on to Craig Charles…”

Fingers crossed!

Don’t forget that the Strange People EP is available now from all good digital distributors. Click through to the ‘Music’ section, or click here to support direct and grab a copy from Bandcamp.
